Nursing Assessment

After interviewing the Finkelstein family, I found there were issues in the physical areas such as in Values, health perception, Nutrition, Activity/Exercise and Sleep/Rest with the exception of Elimination. However, the psychological areas such as Cognitive, Sensory-Perception, Self-Perception, Role Relationship, Sexuality, and Coping were extremely functional among three people excluding the father. I feel that that health issues or the physical state of this family is due to a lack of focus and coming together as a family. The ages in this family range between 39 to 5 months, leaving the father at 39, the mother at 36, the son at 5, and the daughter 5 months old. Individually, they are aware of themselves but they do not pay attention to one another as a group. Among a family of four, they are close but they lack quality time together with exception of watching television. Therefore, my assessment of this family is that they need help when it comes to their physical health, which needs professional counseling.

From there, the Finkelstein family consists of a mother and father along with two children; a daughter and a son. Their health perception is extremely poor especially when it is concerning the father. The father is a smoker that has chest pain often, head aches, and back aches near his heart but refuses to go to see a doctor. It is clear that the father does not have a good wellness of heath seeking behavior. Despite the father, the rest of the family goes to the doctor's office even though it is only when they are sick and not for regular check ups. At least they have some sense of a health seeking behavior. Meanwhile, the father is at risk for injury because he has trouble...

Furthermore, the actual diagnosis that he has an Ineffective Health Maintenance because he refuses to seek a doctor's help and his aches and pains could indicate further deeper issues. This proves that the family needs counseling to address the issues of not seeking medical assistance since he shows poor judgment in seeking a doctor.
"Ineffective health maintenance related to lack of ability to make good judgments regarding ways to obtain help as evidenced by patient statement "I'm just so stressed, I don't know what to do anymore" (Ackley, B.J., & Ladwig, G.B., 2008).

Along with poor health perception, the Nutrition and Sleep/Rest of the family needs improvement. This is because most of the meals do not contain balanced portions of fruits and vegetables. Sometimes the meals only contain a meat, beef, chicken or pork. Furthermore, the five-year-old son has a diet of chicken nuggets, French fries, hot dogs, chips, cookies and candy, which has very little of nutrition. The only person that actually eats a balanced meal is the mother because she is still breast-feeding her five-month-old daughter. However, the mother and the father have lack of sleep because she is breast feeding every two to three hours and he is staying up all night watching television. The son has to be forced to turn off the television at night in order for him to fall asleep. This television issue sometimes takes two or three hours, leaving the child tired in the morning for pre-school. Despite the wellness of effective breast feeding, there is a risk of and actual diagnosis of Imbalanced Nutrition, which is less than what the body requires. In other words, this family is not getting what they need to maintain a healthy diet. Along with poor eating habits, the family is at Risk for Disturbed Sleep Pattern and Risk for Sleep Deprivation because they do not receive enough sleep and the sleep…
